Do you have what it takes to sing our country's national anthem in front of a live crowd? How about at the opening of a Richmond Flying Squirrels game? Allow your inner star to shine through in the Richmond Times-Dispatch Oh, Say Can You Sing contest.

The first-place winner will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner" at the opening of the Richmond Flying Squirrels home game on Friday, July 28. And since that’s not the only opportunity to sing during a baseball game, the second-place winner will sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch.

Do you have the pipes? Here's your big chance to start the game off on a high note and jumpstart your music career.

How to Enter

There are two ways to enter the contest. Singers 18 or older are invited to come to an open recording session at The Diamond from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 29. You won’t be singing on the field just yet, but you’ll have the chance to sing for the camera. We will take care of filming, uploading and everything else for the contest entry – all you need to do is show up and sing.

If you can’t make it to the open recording session, just upload a video of yourself singing “The Star-Spangled Banner”.

The submission period is 5 p.m. Monday, June 26 – 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 7

How to Win

Winners will be determined based on the number of votes their video receives. The singers with the most votes win. Tell all of your family and friends about your contest entry and ask them to vote and spread the word.

The voting period lasts from 12:01 a.m. Monday, July 10 – 11:59 p.m. Monday, July 17.

The winner will be selected and notified on July 18.

In addition to participating in the game, winners will also receive prize packs from the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
